On Friday evening, we were delighted to welcome over 180 guests to our annual fundraiser in the Garden Studio of the beautiful Andaz Xintiandi. Billed as a BBQ Under The Stars, the weather was on our side and the lit-up terrace looked sublime as guests feasted on skewers, canapés and the Andaz's famous pork mooncakes, enjoyed with the glowing high rises of Xintiandi overhead.
Back inside and the room was a feast for the senses: Students playing guitar and teaching guests the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy; the folks from Peddlers Gin and First Cellars adeptly whipping up Gin & Tonics and flutes of bubbly for the thirsty crowd; volunteers selling brightly-colored wheels of raffle tickets; and the highlight of the evening, a stunning photographic exhibition by photographer Dr Astrid Krehan.
The event featured 19 photographs from Astrid’s series, China’s Modern Pulse. The series of highly-saturated color images explores the unique lights and textures of Shanghai, capturing the city’s vibrant aura. All of the images were donated by Astrid and presented in her signature style, aluminum-backed Plexiglas acrylic face mounting.
The evening raised over RMB 50,000 for Shanghai Sunrise’s high school and university scholarship program for underprivileged young students in Shanghai. With the funds raised, we will be able to support the education of 12 students who would otherwise not have had the chance to attend.
Works from the series, China's Modern Pulse can still be purchased exclusively through Shanghai Sunrise. For more information on purchasing an image, please contact Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org or click the below thumbnail to view the Exhibition Catalogue.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event and purchased pieces from the collection; you have directly supported our work in the community!
