About the Event

Shanghai, Friday 29 September 2017 – Photographer Dr Astrid Krehan met more than 180 guests at an exclusive one-night charity exhibition held at the Andaz Xintiandi on Friday, 22 September 2017. The evening raised over RMB 50,000 for Shanghai Sunrise’s high school and university scholarship program for underprivileged young students in Shanghai.

The event featured 19 photographs from Astrid’s series, China’s Modern Pulse. The series of highly-saturated color images explores the unique lights and textures of Shanghai, capturing the city’s vibrant aura. All of the images were donated by Astrid and presented in her signature style, aluminum-backed Plexiglas acrylic face mounting.

Wendy Landy, Executive Director of Shanghai Sunrise, said: “The evening was a great success and we are so grateful to Astrid Krehan for her generosity. The event was a fantastic opportunity to inform more people about the need for financial support in some of Shanghai’s poorest areas and the huge difference that education can make for young people, their families and the wider community. With the funds raised, we will be able to support the education of 12 students who would otherwise not have had the chance to attend.”

Astrid Krehan said of her collaboration with Shanghai Sunrise for this exhibition: “Having seen firsthand the wonderful work that Shanghai Sunrise does for vulnerable young people in Shanghai, I was thrilled to contribute in such a unique way to raise as much money as possible for the students in the program. I would like to thank everyone who attended the event and purchased pieces from the collection; you have directly supported the organization’s vital work in our city.”
