Thank you for your interest in Shanghai Sunrise. Are you, like us, a strong believer in the potential that education can open up for young people?

Shanghai Sunrise was started in 1995 to help lift families from the poverty cycle through educational sponsorships.  We believe that it is every student's right to have an education, because it is education that will enable these students to create opportunities for themselves and become contributing members of society.  Since then, we have witnessed numerous underprivileged young people grow and blossom - fulfilling their childhood dreams, helping their families and then giving back by mentoring younger children or even becoming Sunrise sponsors themselves.

Because elementary and junior-high students are already being supported by the Shanghai government, our focus is on helping high school students.  Currently, we support 500 students and throughout the 16 years of our existence, we have been able to help more than 1600 students in and around Shanghai. Typically, Shanghai Sunrise offers scholarships to students whose families meet our strict financial criteria, such as illness in the family, which often stretches the family’s income beyond its limits.  Some  outstanding Sunrise students may even be eligible to apply  for university scholarships, thus expanding their opportunities even further.

Another important Shanghai Sunrise project helps to provide better quality reading and learning materials to migrant school libraries in the greater Shanghai region. Through the generous donations of people like you, we can work continuously  with these schools to substantially enrich the offerings in their libraries.

As you might be aware, Shanghai is a transient city and people come and go. This means we are frequently looking for volunteers.  At the moment, we have several positions open.  If you have a few hours and want to give back to your community, please consider dedicating some of your time to Shanghai Sunrise. Whether as a sponsor or volunteer, we hope that you will find time to share in our future endeavours with us.  Your support for Sunrise is much appreciated; without our sponsors and volunteers, a great number of students would not be receiving the education that will change their future.  We are delighted that many companies value Sunrise as an integral CSR [Corporate Social Responsibility] partner.
